The seventh Get Started IoT Network that took place on April 25th at Hannover Messe was all about security and data management in the industry 4.0. Meeting up at Cisco’s stand, Oliver Tuszik, Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Germany since 2013, held the key note whereas the startups Rhebo and Cybus presented their security-solutions.
Network, Security & Data Management
The presentations focused on the topic of security in manufacturing and how data can be used to support collaboration as well as secure important assets. Oliver Tuszik started the IoT Network with a general overview on the topic, emphasizing the importance of such networks and assessing the mistakes which have been made in the past. He pointed out that established companies need the help of innovative startups on this topic and vice-versa, which is why he sees a great importance in initiatives such as the Get Started IoT Network.
The first startup to present was Rhebo. In their work they focus on securing critical industrial infrastructure with their product Rhebo Industrial Protector. Klaus Mochalski, the CEO of Rhebo, started his presentation by pointing out that many companies suffer from a lack of knowledge when it comes to how the infrastructure of their company looks like. The product of Rhebo targets this problem and helps a company to achieve a greater transparency of their infrastructure and data. By capturing data traffic and analyzing it Rhebo detects anomalies and is able to find solutions for a better data-protection.
Cybus, the second startup on stage, illustrated how their software solution creates secure communication between machines and internal and external systems, services or applications without blackboxes. Peter Sorowka, Co-Founder and CTO of Cybus, emphasized that security in manufacturing is not only about threat discovery, but also about secure networks of data. Therefore Cybus developed a connectware to manage data in a smarter way. The Inside Cybus Connectware is an enterprise IT solution with graphical Web App that helps to organize data in a consistent data format.
Talks & discussions
The presentations from Cisco, Rhebo and Cybus were followed by an open discussion round with questions from the audience. The three speakers discussed about the necessity of tougher security laws from political decision makers, concluding that business-norms and standards could me more appropriate and flexible in order to regulate the fast changing IT-security field. Besides that, the two startups illustrated how being labeled “a startup” is on the one hand creating new opportunities and visibility for them, but on the other hand might be a hurdle as well when it comes to negotiate with large, established companies such as Cisco on a level-playing field.
After the discussion the IoT Network turned to Bitkom’s stand for drinks and snacks and there was enough time to discuss more questions with the speakers and for networking. We want to thank Cisco for hosting us at their stand and also Rhebo and Cybus for their interesting presentations.
